Do not believe or share false information. If in doubt, call Hotline 1584
. Sanit Phromwong, Director-General of the Department of Land Transport, revealed regarding the case of untrue information being circulated and shared through social media: “Bad news for anyone whose driver's license is confiscated, it won't be returned and you'll have to retake the exam... and you'll only get a temporary license instead. Drive carefully with the regulations. Starting this May 1st, tickets will be sent home from CCTV cameras recording and sending to home, crossing the line, running a red light, not wearing a seatbelt, using phone while driving, no license plate. Try the new red light cameras, they are activated, please drive carefully, each shot is 500 baht. Don't forget to inform your friends who drive, our police friends informed us.”
.
The Department of Land Transport confirms that the said message is not true in any way. The truth is, in cases where vehicle users violate traffic laws, police officers can confiscate the driver's license and issue a traffic ticket which serves as a temporary substitute for the driver's license for only 7 days. Therefore, citizens must contact the police and will receive their driver's license back only after paying the fine for the offense. As for cases where tickets are received from automatic violation recording cameras, in these cases, the driver's license will not be confiscated. Instead, police officers will send the ticket to the vehicle owner's address for legal fine payment. Furthermore, if there is an attempt to falsely claim a lost driver's license with the intention of requesting a new one, this is considered an illegal act. And the Department of Land Transport will absolutely not issue a new driver's license because the confiscated driver's license remains valid according to the law. Requests cooperation to stop circulating and sharing untrue information. If there are any doubts, it is recommended to inquire directly with the relevant agencies. For instance, in this case, you can call Hotline 1584 24 hours a day or check information at www.dlt.go.th of the Department of Land Transport.
